If you’re wondering how to keep the kids amused on Saturday, 4th June, look no further than Higginson Park in Marlow, where Wild Marlow is holding its first Bee Festival, celebrating bees and other pollinators in and around the town.

Around twenty stallholders will attend the event, which runs from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm. All day there will be pottery painting with the Kiln Ceramic Café and the opportunity to colour in a bee for Wild Marlow’s fantastic Bee Frieze — or you can learn to make a beeswax candle or a bee bomb full of seeds to attract bees to your garden.

At selected times there’ll be talks and demonstrations with live bees by the High Wycombe Beekeepers’ Association, guided walks around the park with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, and bee-themed storytelling with Sarah Stories. Little Muddy Boots, a group that helps children learn more about the natural world, will be running bee-related activities and arts and crafts for little ones.

Wild Marlow is showcasing its work to support and encourage pollinators in the town, with bee-friendly plants for gardens and plenty of information and advice on how to attract pollinators to your garden. Bee hotels, bee cards and stones will be available to buy, while other stallholders will offer books, art, bags and crafts, all focusing on the bee theme.

“Please come and help us celebrate and support our vital bee population,” Verity West of Wild Marlow said. “We’re hoping lots of people will visit the festival and learn how we can help attract and support bees in our gardens and green spaces.”

Wild Marlow has been working with residents and landowners to help support bees and pollinators by encouraging more wildflower areas around the town, bee-friendly grass-cutting regimes and a newly adopted pollination policy for Marlow Town Council.
